Eight Kosovo wood processing are exhibiting their products at the MOW international furniture fair in Germany from September 18-22, 2016. This year, they are supported by the professional sales agent that opened in Germany earlier in June, which sells products online under the brand name of “Schwarzwald Massivholz”, developed specifically for made in Kosovo furniture.

NTP Lumi, a door manufacturer from Pejë/Peć on August 24, 2016, signed a grant USAID EMPOWER Private Sector in partnership with Sida. The grant will enable the company to construct a new factory in the Drenas Business Zone and install new equipment in order to expand production capacities to meet increasing demand. At least 25 new jobs will be created initially, a number expected to reach 48 later.

Dijamanti, one of the largest traders and importers of glued and laminated timber in Kosovo, now will start producing its own. Dijamanti needed an investment for the construction and installation of the factory’s new glued and laminated timber production line, which is going to be done with the help of the grant that they recived from USAID EMPOWER Private Sector.

Dekoriti is a producer of high quality wood furniture and custom-made wooden design elements. They produce doorways, bars, decorative wall panels. Recently Dekoriti signed a grant agreement with EMPOWER Private Sector, funded by USAID and Sida.

Wood processing companies in Kosovo are amongst the main employers, especially for youth. As the sector grows, so does the demand for skilled workers, who, according to companies are hard to find.

On May 18, 2016, 40 youth were certified for successful completion of a 3-month internship program with fourteen wood processing companies. Already 29 of them have full-time regular jobs with these companies.

As a relatively new value chain in Kosovo, the wood biomass production and consumption has experienced extraordinary growth in import, sales and production. Additionally, the value chain for the manufacturing of pellet stoves and boilers has expanded dramatically in the recent years.
